Jennifer's update

Hey everybody,

Thanks for your patience. I know there have been many of you to connect with me wondering when the next installment was coming. Here it is...and fraught with miracles and waiting...sometimes not-so-patiently.

Well, God made a way for me to stay in San Diego. I was very open to leaving, in fact my room had been packed for a month (out of a conviction that I was transitioning) and the car had been packed for days as of last Thursday. A few weeks ago, there was a woman I met through a mutual gathering place that mentioned she had a studio for rent. I asked if I could come see it. She said, "Absolutely." I loved it at first sight! The home is located in downtown San Diego...old three story Victorian with generations of history saturating the walls and furniture. Gloria, the 81 year old's name, is pure magic--a violinist, a lover of God, a vivacious and intelligent woman...who is currently kicking my butt in Scrabble. I love it. I love her. The garden on the grounds is San Fran style with potted tress and flowers everywhere. It's totally me for any of you who know how much I love old places and especially old Victorian homes and colorful gardens. I rent the studio in back of the house...and there is an old garage full of tools and old, good things in which I have my art studio.

This past Thursday, I almost didn't get the place... I was packed and ready to go. I still had not heard from the Holy Spirit about where to go or what to do, but had heard through many praying for me to "wait." I had no idea if that was a physiological waiting or a spiritual waiting. So, I prayed on Thursday morning around 3 am...and not without some serious tears... "Lord, if you want me to stay in SD, then I am asking that the studio with Gloria will be available. If you want me to leave, then please have the impossible happen and have someone within the past 48 hours rent it." Well, I called, and Gloria was beside herself. "Jennifer, I tried to call you over and over, but it was always busy. (She didn't dial my area code.) I didn't think it was possible, and I told you I'd wait for your decision until Friday, but 12 hours ago a woman came and looked at the studio and wanted it. So, I gave it to her. I'm so sorry." I told her it was ok...and trusted that I was supposed to leave. Then, at 10 pm that same night, she calls again and said, "Jennifer, you'll never believe this...but that woman called back just now and said she DIDN'T want the studio. Do you still want it?" I told her I would be there at 10 am the next morning.

The studio is the most beautiful home I've had in 3 years...in fact it is the only home I've had to myself in that amount of time. I have slept better here than I have in 3 years. Gloria prays, and I can feel that on the property. Jesus knew what I needed. She loves me, and amazingly she calls me her blessing from Jehovah... I've become her muscle, a property manager and her technical wizard (I just set up a home network for her property and tenants, got her internet, and bidding on laptops for her...she still is actively playing violin in the area...she's been self employed for 22 years.) We both are happy, creative and energetic. We have the BEST conversations. She's teaching me Spanish and Italian... She's Italian...married Spanish. Lovely teacher. Delightful person. Sometimes I think I was born in the wrong era... :)

The amazing thing in all of this is that I contacted over 30 different rental opportunities in the past two months...and NO one, NOT ONE called or emailed me back. Gloria was an open door...strangely, she has a million doors in her house... The house has three storeys and is about 5000 sq ft. She hates to have to walk everywhere to get to another room, so almost every room has 3 or 4 doors. There are even more spare doors in her garage...antique doors, shutters, saloon doors, anything you can imagine. It's crazy. She likes collecting them. Hahha! For all of you who had heard from the Holy Spirit about the coming of an open door. She is the lady of doors.

I've been self employed for the past few months. The contracts keep coming in from strange places, but I'm still looking for full time work. I will be designing a web site, writing, designing marketing collateral and managing some of Gloria's properties... We should be able to work out a barter for a while...but a stable income would be nice...so keep praying all of you, my beloved peoples...

Thanks so much for reading. I genuinely appreciate your love, your interest and care.

Come see me. There's a spare bedroom...and the beach is only a ten minute drive over the Coronado bridge...

Tons of love to all.

I need to see a new post (even if it is my own stuff!)

Aunt Renee here and after clicking on the blog a zillion times these past couple days and there were no new posts, I decided that I should just do my own since maybe you are thinking the same thing! I just returned from Spanish II where I need a grande Panera coffee before I go just to be able to keep up! Between I like, she likes, they like and he has, she has, they have, my brain is swimming by the time I'm done (I don't want to even hear about how easy it all is my young spanish nieces . . . . )

Here is a picture that I took of my very cool Junior Achievement bag that I received about 4 weeks ago. I've been teaching JA to 3rd graders at East Elementary in Grandville and THEY ARE BRILLIANT. The 5 weeks is about city planning. . . zones, business, consumers, producers and entrepreneurs! This week is spring break but next week is the last class and it will be about banking and keeping a checkbook ledger (obviously, they did not check out my qualifications for teaching that subject!) but I have loved it! They crack me up because they ask me things like 'do you wear the same clothes every day like a uniform?' (not a ton of variety in the ol' funeral home dress code :))

I don't know about you but I don't think I could even say entrepreneur (I still can't spell it without copying it from the book) in 3rd grade let alone learn about city planning and what goes in what zone. A couple of weeks ago was about starting a restaurant and all that is involved so I brought Rainbow Grill bran muffins because what says Grandville more than those bran muffins. Uncle David thought that was a bad idea since what 3rd graders wants/likes/needs bran but they liked their little quarter of a muffin. One little girl kept asking what the 'flavor' was. . . she didn't get that 'bran' was a flavor! Her teacher told her to just eat it, she would appreciate it when she was older!

Anyway, I so hope I get to keep my bag because it is so fun, just like the past 5 weeks.

hello again,
So last week was awesome out. so Jason and I decided to take the Harley out for a drive. It so nice. We start on our house this weekend, Andy is coming over to dig the hole for us. Praise God we're starting. Last week i woke up to Eli holding a waffle in my face saying he was hungery at 6:30 in the morn'n. I told him he was not aloud to go in the fridge without asking when i was sleeping. anywho i got made him breakfast, he said he was sorry. Then he says " I was brave though" crack me up. He comes up with some funny sayings some times. So he's turning 4 in May Lily is 7 months now saying daaa daaa to which Jason loves. But i do have one question to the moms: we have been going through some rough times with eli. Everytime we say something he does not like or want to do he start crying and throwing a fit. Or when it's time to go to bed it's always I"m not tired i don't want to and the crying agian.? Any suggestions that would be wonderful. I don't know if there's something were not giving him that he's needing maybe i don't know. But i am at the end of my rope with how to handle it. love to all and happy trails.

A New Goal Accomplished... Almost

Today I am busy but craving adult conversation. So I thought I would post a blog about my latest endeavor in the athletic realm. I love setting new workout goals and pushing myself past my limits. Last summer I trained for a minitriathlon. It was a mini, mini but was challenging me. I had a fear of water and had a tough time swimming out to the diving dock at the cottage. (I know... pathetic!) So I swam 300 yds, biked 6 miles, and ran 3 miles. It was really fun. This winter I was looking for another challenge. Thanks to a convincing sister, I decided to train for the 5th, 3rd Run in May. They have a 25K run which is around 15 miles. I ran track in high school and even in college a bit but I WAS A SPRINTER. That means that anything over a mile is LONG distance to us. The 3 mile run for my minitri was tough enough. So this was a huge goal. I committed to training for it but have waited to actually make the commitment to run it. This is mostly due to the time commitment it takes to actually train for the long runs. Well, yesterday I ran 10 miles. I was so proud of myself. I actually teared up a bit! It is funny when you accomplish something that you realize you didn't actually believe you could do. I had hoped I could push myself enough to do it but I guess deep down I had some serious doubts. I am really sore today but it was SO worth it. So now I am announcing to the world that I am going to run the entire race... the whole 15 miles. I am pretty excited and really enjoyed my run yesterday. I am at the point now where I can run 3-5 miles and it is fun. That is pretty sweet. Just thought I would add another interesting realm to the blogging world. Hope everyone is having a wonderful day! Adios!

Springtails

Here's the lastest bug we've discovered up here in Traverse City....after talking to a very nice gentleman at Colliers Pest Control we're a little more at ease. He said they're called springtails or snow fleas but I prefer springtails! We found these little black 'specks' in our basement around the door leading outside and then on Monday when the weather was fabulous we were horrified to find them COVERING the foundation of our house. Kinda like a pile of ants that once you crouch down and really start looking they're EVERYWHERE.....EEWWW!!! I did some research online just now and found out that they're probably found in your backyard too! (see we don't get all the nasty critters!) Here's a short blerp on what I found...ya never know folks, this could be one of those 'useless facts' that might just come in handy some day! Luke you might actually enjoy this one!

Here goes:

Most of us have never noticed snow fleas, unique little creatures that are really very common, and right under our noses. Here's how to find them.
On a warm, sunny winter day, take a look at the base of a tree where the snow may have melted down to expose some leaves, or where the snow is shallow or hollowed out just a bit. There you'll find a sprinkling of what looks like "pepper" or "ashes" on the surface of the snow. Snow fleas are actually tiny insects which come out on warm, sunny days to eat decayed plant material or sap oozing from the tree. They hop around acting like fleas and that's where they get their name, snow "fleas." They're not fleas though, but actually an arthropod called Collembola (kol-LEM-bo-la) or commonly called springtails which measure about 1/8 inch (2mm) long.

Blah Blah Blah...

SOOO Kim here again! I'm downstairs on the computer doing my daily check for any new posts! I felt like writing a little something, about nothing in particular really....just felt like writing! We had the Thelen family up for a visit last weekend - the weather could've cooperated a little better but it didn't rain so at least we got to get outside for the fresh 'hair' as Makayla calls it! =) We went to the Platte River Hatchery to check out the fish for all the guys (although us girls liked it too!). We discovered a whole section of the hatchery that we've never seen before and I've been there 3 times before! Hello...I know my blode roots are showing but are they really THAT bad?!? The guys got a chance to putz around with the GPS looking for lakes while the 2 little ones slept which gave Bren and I some peace & quiet too! Ahh...always love a little R & R! Then we ordered out at Chili's and went to Moomers for ice cream! Moomers is a local place....it's right on a dairy farm and they make all their own ice cream. It really is probably the best ice cream I've ever tasted!! Makayla ate her 'Supermoo' down in about 3 bites and kept saying all night 'that was very very very good ice cream!' =)
I just got done baking a batch of choc chip cookies for my sweetie to take with him as he heads up to Newberry in the U.P. tomorrow for work. He'll be gone for 3 days so again Makayla and I will have to conjure up new adventures and make special memories of our own. It gets lonely, yes, but it's funny how when it's just the two of us we always end up having that special mommy/daughter time. I try so hard not to take that for granted even though some days I feel like pulling my hair out!! =) Time invested in your kids is ALWAYS worth the return!! =) On that note I'll bid you farewell! Have a blessed week and don't forget to be thankful for everything you have, no matter how small. Life is to be treasured.... Love you all!

Is Anyone Else In Heaven?

I just had to post a very quick note to see if anyone else is in heaven with this weather!!! Of course, this won't be long because I have to get back in the sunshine. But I am so blessed by the sunshine and warmth I had to say, "Thank You Jesus!" I keep telling myself that it is only March and it probably won't last but while it is here we are loving it!! Enjoy!

changes

WOW! I am so impressed with this family of mine. Not one day has gone by where there wasn't something new to read about. Thank you to everyone for contributing, and for you new "bloggers" out there, welcome!

I personally have news of my own. Today I changed my major. It's not that I don't want to be a nurse anymore or that I don't think that I can do it, I've just been realizing that I need to pursue the passions of my heart and that for me is photography. I have written about the nitty gritty details on my blog. Thanks for all of your prayers as Jason and I are up here figuring things out!

Aaron & Barbara and the boys

Hello Everyone,
I do believe this is the first post from us, I tried once a while ago and hit a wrong key and lost it all. I'm back though to do this again, I've got so much to say so I'll just give you a little at a time.
Things are going wonderful here in Hudsonville, we've been staying so busy with church and work and wrestling. The boys have had a little wrestling clinic 2 nights a week for the last month (they have been really liking it. They will be done on Monday wrestling and then will start little league T-Ball in about 2 wks.
God is doing such wonderful things at church, He is on the move growing and stretching us. Barb has stepped up and is heading up a new ministry at our church called the Care Cupboard. She will be keeping it organized and keep up on the inventory, the goal is to expand on our food drives so we will have items in hand to help meet needs on a constant basis. So I am so proud of her for stepping out of her shell to do this, I know God will bless what she is doing.
We are also starting a small group at our house on Sundays for married couples, us and one other couple will be leading it so pray that God will touch lives. I also have a mens group that meets over here on Monday nights so we have been keeping busy.
We finally are just about done with our basement, the drop ceiling is in and we just got our new carpet in on Saturday( it's so soft) and I moved our main entry door to come into our fireplace room now so we can have more room to get in and actully have an entry. So things are looking a little different around here but we are almost done, just a little painting.
Well that will be it for now, till next time love ya all.

Don't You Love How God Made Children?

I thought I would share a cute kid story. I love to see into the minds of my children. They are truly amazing when I take the time to learn how they think. I am continually shocked to discover how much they can actually comprehend, at all ages!

The other day the girls and I were discussing my grandpa dying. I told Tori and Elli that God had given me a picture of my grandpa and grandma in heaven. They were living with Jesus, worshipping and dancing and having so much fun. Tori just sat there quietly thinking. Then she asked me, "Mommy, does that mean that they live in my heart?" What an amazing connection to make! I had told them that my grandparents live with Jesus and she knew Jesus was in her heart. I never thought about that connection.

As we continued the discussion, Elli's wheels were turning also. Of course, in typical Elli fashion she was in a completely different area of thought. She says to me, "Mommy when I go to heaven, I think there is going to be a big blankie for me." I had to laugh. The one thing that both my girls hold very dear is their blankies. So of course, Jesus would have to have a big blankie for them. Or it just wouldn't be paradise! :) Gotta love kids!

Our Valentines picture taken at Crazy Horse Restaraunt

Well, I figured out how to scan this in for you all. I know, it's a little crooked; just tilt your head.
I planted broccoli & pepper seeds to start in the house today; I did my tomato seeds a few days ago. It's a little late but I was waiting for new seeds that I'd ordered. Every spring I just can't wait to start planning my garden and being able to finally get outside. Uncle Doug trimmed all the raspberry canes from last year last week; we have to do the old asparagus yet too and uncover the strawbery plants soon. YUM, fresh picked strawberries, raspberries, asparagus, beans, tomatoes, broc, cucumbers, peppers, squashes; I can't wait! The chickens got let outside today for the first time this spring. They are very excited because it's very nasty in the chicken coop after all winter. . . and cleaning the chicken coop is another upcoming fun job. Any volunteers to help? I could share alittle of that lovely ckicken poop with you (if there's any fellow gardeners out there). It sure makes the garden grow better (if you let it age for a year first, it's very hot).
On that note I'll get going. :-)
Love you all, A. Rachel

great news

Hello all! Well I woke up this morning to the screaming wind and yucky white stuff on the ground (i think they call it snow) Needless to say I am not that happy to get out of the apartment this morning and walk to my classes. I do have some GREAT news though! Due to Jason's poor undergrad grades he was not able to apply for a Teaching Assistant position, since he has started grad school he has kept down almost a 3.9 GPA, proving to him and everyone else that he is someone to take notice of. His mentor called him this weekend and told Jason that he had been offered the teaching assistant job for the whole academic year next year!! We are so excited. This is such a huge blessing in more ways than one. Jason will be able to get his feet wet teaching (he'll have is own class of 18 year olds), we will have some sort of medical insurance, he won't have to scrub toilets anymore and most of all he will be paid a stipend to do it. The amount is not huge by any standards (except ours) but hopefully it will be going up. It will be so nice to breathe a little bit financially next year! Congratulations Jason! I think you're wonderful!

Ok so I know you are all wondering how school is going for me....well you will just have to wait. I have a lot to say on the matter of me and where i stand with this whole school thing, but i have a few more things to figure out first. I promise to keep you posted. In the mean time...BE HAPPY! (I dare ya!)

with all of my love

Hi Everyone, Just wondered if I'm the only one who needs Kleenex every time I read this site. If I read this at work I wonder what anyone who walks past must think... Boy she must be having a bad day!! Really, it is just so amazing the things that go on in this family and how good our God is, it just makes me cry!! Not that we don't have struggles, but we are a FAMILY!!! I guess the more I see and the older I get the more I realize just how unusual our gang is, and I am happy. So I guess it"s OK if I cry . It's so cool to SEE Katie's new car, Little Grannies being blessed, personal achievements like first solo flight announced. Thanks to everyone who keeps contributing, I'll just keep my Kleenex handy.
Speaking of crying, I got to see the smallest grandchild I have right now today when I checked my email. Kimberly had emailed the picture of her Thurs Ultrasound. Yep I cried.
Uncle Nick and I are leaving this Wed. for Tn. we're going to take Gram and Gramps TB with us to see Bradley and his family and do a little sight seeing as well.
Love you all Barbara Grace

Passin The Time...

Kim here....just checkin the blog again for anything new and since there wasn't I thought I'd post a little something! Dan is busy muddin the drywall he got hung over the past week (can I hear a Hallelujah!?) and Makayla is busy catching "big fish" with her Barbie fishing pole! We've had a normal week, which was needed for us, and I feel like we're a family again. It's always a little tough when we're seperated (Dan was out of town and I was in Allendale) for a while.....as much as I love being at Mom and Dads it's always good to be home again as a family!
We're still on the look out for a new church, it's something I have on my "to do" list for the week. There's 2 places I want to call and get some more information before we check it out. It will be so nice to have this figured out and feel "home" again with a church. When we were in Allendale we went to GH Res Life and ohhhhh how good it felt to feel like we were REALLY in church again. It seems like since we've moved up here we haven't had that and I seriously miss it as does Dan. I felt like the service could've gone on all day long and it wouldn't have mattered a bit to me......it's amazing how when you're in a church that "gets it" and His presence can be felt it's just so peaceful and freeing really. So keep that in your prayers still when you think of it....there's got to be something that's meant for us up here somewhere! =)
I guess I'd better sign off....Makayla got up from her nap a few minutes ago and now is hungry so I'm gonna go raid the fridge for a snack. While I'm there I guess I might as well get me a little somethin too.... =) Love you all - remember as the weather is getting warmer, T.C. is a really nice place to come visit and we're a free hotel!

Ok we will go from top left and around clock wise.
The top left is from left to right eric's brother in law-matt, eric's sister-michelle, me and eric (myboyfriend), the next picture is of eric and I at the mammoth lacrosse game in denver (he likes to kiss me, only on the cheek of course :O), the other is also of eric and I, we even look cute with bunny ears, and the last is of my car!!!
here is my new car I got last week. It is a mazda 6 and it is so much fun!!! I have never had a car that I got to pick out or something that isn't at least a decade old. So this one is all mine and it is so much fun to drive. I love it!!!

I got a really good deal on it because one of eric's fellow fire fighters has this dealer's license so he goes to dealers car auctions and gets cars at a fraction of the price. So that is how I got my mazda 6!!!

Just wanted all of you to see my car since I can't exactly come over to your house since I live on the other side of the country. :o)

Thank-you for your prayers

Dearest Ones. We are overwhelmed with the greatest & goodness of our great Big God. Ashton surgery went so very well, he is home , I just left him. You would never believe that he had heart surgery not even a week ago. He was sitting in his high chair & had a big grin on his face when I walked in. The surgeon said that Ashton was the only patient they ever had who wanted to sit up immediately after surgery. What a precious little guy. Thank-you to those of you who called to check & see how he was doing, and Barb & Rachel for bringing meals... and all the rest of the gang who prayed. We so appreciate you, thanks. Gramma has survived even though she always wears the same shirt & has turkey breath in the morning. Ya gotta love the honesty of our kids..... Our home will be shockingly quiet for the next few days. I might even take a nap. I love ya'll Aunt Donna

Amazing Grace

Just wanted to share with all of you the difference one person can make for people thousands of miles away. Grandma TerBeek has been knitting like crazy this winter. The afghans were sent down to the Dominican Republic with our friends, the Bodenner's, who handed them out at the 'nursing home' (don't be thinking Brookcrest . . . not even remotely close) where they have no heat and it can get pretty chilly. Thank you Grandma TerBeek for being such a great example of how one person can bless others in their own very special way.
~aunt renee (just wanted to clarify because you KNOW that Grandma would never blow her own horn . . . even if 7 little Dominican grandma's were warmer today because of her!)

SOLO

Congratulations Ross on your first solo flight!

birthdays

I'm not sure if there are more birthdays than this, for this week and last week but i wanted to make sure that you are loved.

Last Saturday: 3/10 HAPPY BIRTHDAY TASHINA!
Yesterday: 3/11 HAPPY BIRTHDAY JEN VANDER VEEN!
Today: 3/12 HAPPY BIRTHDAY LEAH!

Need your help...

http://www.jfci.org/pages/page.asp?page_id=9362

Please watch this video. Any of you connected to anyone, any organization, list of contacts or networks... I'm asking you to help me raise awareness for JFCI. I just met with the co-founder, Rob Morris, this evening...and literally what he and a handful of other people in the world are trying to do is abolish present day slavery in the form of child sex trafficking. And they need to raise awareness, raise funds to build safehouses, find people interested in managing safehouses, or be counselors. It's global. Over 17,000 children are trafficked into the USA alone. East Asia, Eastern Europe and West Africa are the global hotspots for this activity.

JFCI is an organization that thought before it acted. Everything is in place. They are ready to move and geared to handle the response. Please, let's be a family that responds to ending slavery. There are over 27 million slaves in the world today, and 2 million children annually are sold into slavery...either by abduction or being sold by their parents, mostly little girls, & most of them under the age of 6.

Please help in any way you can. Our family is all over, and with just our family alone we could do something pretty amazing to end this. We were gathered in a house this evening: all races, sizes, shapes, male, female, faiths and ages. It was really excruciating and exciting at the same time.

Love to all of you. Jennifer

ps. Personal update, I don't know whether I'm staying or leaving San Diego. I need to have a job this week. Please pray for the open door...and for the courage to walk through the door. I'll keep you posted.

arizona sunsets

Hello all from AZ! I just wanted to post pictures of the best sunset I have ever seen. I'm just sending a little warmth back to Michigan! Love you. Jason and Stacey

I didn´t fall off the end of the world....

Oooooook. So, it´s been awhile. :D Here´s what´s been going on in my life.

First off, my Honduras experience. It was amazing! I loved being there and to be able to spend months with family after going for months without them...incredible. As you all know, Leah came to visit us and we had an awesome time. When she left, I began volunteering at the Hope Center and with the kindergarten classes at Tasha´s school. I fell in love with the HC kids! And with pretty much everyone from church. The kids in the pics up top are some of my favorites. From the left it´s Yeimy, Alex, and Hector. We had a water fight one day, but it was hilarious because the girls had no idea how to use the guns, and they didn´t like it very much. But the boys couldnt´get enough! The whole time was such an amazing experience for me that I´m going to be making a ¨pit stop¨ on my way home. In July I´ll leave here and head back to spend as much time as I can in Tegus before classes start again in the fall.
Speaking of classes, I started classes here this week. So far they seem to be going well. I think that I´m taking Communication and Chilean Culture; Chilean Dialect; Chilean and Hispanic American Literature; 20th Century History through the Cinema; History and Geography of Chile; and Lectures of the Psalms. Hmm...I think I have some sort of theme with Chile or something. :) I really like my Culture class, there´s a good group of gringos and the prof seems really relaxed. He told me today that I´m Chilena. He meant that I speak with a Chilean accent and use their slang and such. It made my day!

Starting last Friday night, my two ¨wingmen¨ (two friends from last semester who´ve stayed and we´ve been betting to know each other better) and I made a pact that we´re not goign to speak any English at all for teh rest of teh semester. Of course I can with all of you, but down here it´s all Spanish. So far we´ve done pretty good. There have been a few slips, but...I´ve already noticed an improvement, as have others. So it´s worth it. The big test though will be this weekend when we go to Pucón with the whole CIEE gang. It´s a 12 hour bus ride with 40-some gringos...I hope I can remember to speak Spanish despite the fact that I´ll be hearing mostly English.

Before classes started though, one of my friends and I decided to go into Valparaíso and get lost. Viña del Mar and Valparaíso are sister cities, but Viña, where we live, is cleaner, richer, and in general more snobby. Valpo, where we go to school, on the other hand is dirtier, poorer, and has the best atmosphere. Last semester we spent most of our time in Viña because it was easier, so now we´re trying to make a point of getting to know Valpo. Anyway, we ended up at the ex-carcel. It´s an old prison that was used during Pinochet´s days to house political prisoners. Now it´s been converted into a cultural center of sorts where there´s amazing graffiiti artwork on the walls and the larger rooms are used for concerts and there´s even a theater. Anyway, we met the most adorable puppy. It made me want to take it home with me. So here he is sitting on my lap.

So, to sum things up, I´m adjusting to being a student again while missing both of my homes. :) I love you all and I really do miss seeing everyone. Besitos!

Velderman Family Update

Alright....so I feel like lots has been happening since I've updated everyone last. This may be a little lengthy but let's face it, everyone secretly LOVES the long ones right?!? =) I guess I'll start back a little while and work my way to today. The picture of the kids with Kurt and I was at Gavin's birthday party. I ended up coming a day earlier than I expected (thanks to my fabulous husband that convinced me I needed the break!) so I got to be there for the V.V. side of the party. I stayed through Sat. for Gavin's sleepover with his 5 friends. It was really fun to be there for Gavin, I feel privledged to have the relationship I do with my precious nephew. I was supposed to stay overnight Sat. and come home Sun. but as some of you may remember (alright you girls in the warm parts of the country - quit laughing!!) they predicted a pretty nasty ice/sleet/snow storm to hit Sat. night so I thought I better head home before it hit. I was really sad, and that was an understatement, to leave so suddenly but had to be home by Sun because Dan was headed out of town Mon. morning for work. Sigh.....I still feel bad about leaving, partially because I looked forward to the scavenger hunt/pinyata (sp?)/dessert part of the party, but it was such fun being at my sisters house and spending time with her. We talk lots on the phone but that's just not the same as actually spending time together. I still struggle with being away from my family since moving up here sometimes. It's just treasured time, but another life lesson God is teaching me. Just to rest in Him and be content where he's placed me. Gotta love those life lessons right?!? However, it didn't help that Bren was crying as I drove off (sigh again...) - I kept telling myself it was the pregnancy hormones but honestly we were just sad to cut the visit short. It was a really hard trip home, I don't know how many times I felt like turning around but knew I couldn't. ANYHOW.....I was glad that I came a day early as I may not have come otherwise if I would've knew about the storm so for that, I'm grateful. We did games, presents, sleds behind the quad....all in all I think Gav was a happy boy for his THIRD b-day party in a row!!!!
Onto the next picture., Daddy had taken Makayla outside while mommy rested and when they told me to come outside they had made a snow fort around a tree in the front yard. Leave it to daddy to make special memories with his baby girl....they truely have a special bond. We've had lots of fun with the fort since he made it, she likes to hide and then have us come find her. =)
Makayla and I have been busy painting, painting and painting some more. Finally the task is finished and looks adorable! Of course it was my big idea (somehow Dan's usually not on board with my new projects!!) to get started while he was out of town for 3 days. I got Makayla all phyched out about helping paint, so we went to Home Depot and picked it up. While the guy was mixing it Makayla kept saying "That's FOR ME!!"....and so on it went with every painting item I picked up!!! =) The next morning we were downstairs by 8 a.m. painting because as soon as she opened her peepers she remembered what we were going to do and got right up! With painting clothes donned we tackled the job...and let me just say I'm impressed with how well and how long she hung in there with me. And surprisingly enough she was a really big help! She loves it and is excited to move downstairs as I've said before, the basement needs to get finished first so it'll probably be a few months yet. I've got everything I need to put it together so once I get the go ahead I'll be right on it - - I love seeing the finished product! =) The picture was her on her toy phone pretending to chat to daddy while painting. Needless to say, I'd just gotten off the phone with Brenda so she thought she imitate mommy! =)
I went to the doctor for the first time yesterday and found out I'm 11 weeks along (I thought I was 10 weeks) and my official due date is Sept. 26. I go again next week for an ultrasound to get the most accurate due date but I doubt it will change much. It's kinda hard to believe I'm almost 3 months along already...seems like I just found out I was pregnant yesterday! And the "yuckies" have stayed away for about a week now so I'm assuming they're gone for good. Very grateful for that although I'm so excited about this little treasure I'd go through just about anything to have it here and be healthy! =)
The basement has kinda been at a stand still.....the next step is drywall but Dan hasn't gotten to that part yet. Soon I think although I don't say much about it these days.....he got a little testy when he thought I was getting pushy about getting it finished so I backed off. Smart girl huh? It's just hard cuzz I feel like it's getting close and it'll be SO nice to have the space down here all done! All in good time......I'm grateful that Dan is as handy as he is and is saving all that money by doing it himself. He's awesome!
Alright well I got superballs flying around behind me and Dan's on the phone so I'm gonna get going. We're headed back this weekend for another fast 'n furious trip for Mom's/Jen's birthday party....I think I may be spending a few extra days after Dan goes back because he's headed out of town for a few days and we get a little lonely after awhile by ourselves. =)
A prayer request if ya think of it....we're still in search of a home church and it really stinks to be in limbo with that. The church we thought would be the one we're finding out has some core beliefs that completely contradict ours.....and probably not something we'd be able to overlook and feel comfortable about. But it would be nice to feel settled somewhere and sooner better than later would be fantastic! Love you all - so thankful for the fabulous family we're so blessed to be a part of! Keep on blogging.....

HAPPY BIRTHDAY AUNT BARBARA!!

A Goodbye...

Hey everyone! I just wanted to give you all a quick update and thank you all for your prayers. My grandpa passed away on Thursday. The wonderful answer to prayer is that my uncle did get home in time. To be honest, my grandpa really did have to fight for that to occur. But then an hour before my uncle got to the hospital, my grandpa stabilized. The next day his doctor said he actually thought he could recover. I had mixed feelings about that. He was ready to go. And it became more and more evident to us as a family that the end was near. He was stable through the rest of the day and then we were called to the hospital that night. Then he stabilized again. The next day there wasn't much change. My mom and my uncle had to make the difficult decision to take his oxygen mask off. It was what my grandpa had wanted. They gave him morphine so he wouldn't feel any pain. This was at 2:00 in the afternoon and they told us they didn't expect him to make it through the night. He was gone in twenty minutes.

Everyone is asking me how I am doing? To be honest, it has been a lot more difficult than I was expecting. I remember sitting next to him in the hospital holding his hand. There was this moment that I looked in his eyes... and I realized I had the same color eyes as him. I thought to myself, those are my eyes. I can not explain what I felt. A part of me was dying with him. This was the grandpa that always took us to get ice cream. He took me out to pizza more times than I can count. He was the man that everyone loved... wherever we went. He & my grandma loved each other so much that they secretly eloped and then went back to live at their parents house. They didn't tell anyone! (Can you imagine!) They were married for almost 50 years. He was such a spit fire and had all of us laughing in the hospital the entire time. He was a fighter. He was all of this, but most of all he was the grandpa that I was closest to. Sometimes I think you don't realize how much you love someone until they are gone. I don't have any regrets. My kids knew him. He knew I loved him. But even then, I didn't know I would have such a hole in my heart. My grandma used to tell my mom, Better to have loved and lost then to never have loved before. I think that sums it up. I am honored to know that I came from him. He was a fighter and he was strong. God told me he was one of his fighters. It is so cool to know that I come from that. We need to be speaking that into our families. Kim & Dan's kids can say the same. Aaron & Barb's kids can say the same. (And many other examples) There was a warrior that I could feel rise up in my spirit as I watched him and knew that I had that same spirit. Although the emotions have been high this week, the Lord spoke to me so clearly through many situations. As in any situation in life, the Lord was with us every step of the way. Now my grandpa is with Him... and my grandma. What more could I want for him?

Thanks for all your prayers! You are an awesome family!

Love, Jen

Kurt & Lisa Update

Hello Beloved Family-
Kurt and I just love reading the blog and probably check it almost daily so we thought that we should contribute now and then. No big news to announce or anything but we thought that we should still give a little update on the happenins' at our homefront!
I posted a couple of pictures from our trip to Florida a couple of weeks ago! We went to Florida to celebrate my grandparents 50th wedding anniversary (they live in Florida) and it was such a great time and we were blessed with beautiful weather and no tornado's!!! (For those of you that don't know-I have a tiny fear of tornado's that I am overcoming everyday!!) Kurt and I are so blessed to have grandparents on both sides that are such great examples of a Godly marriage! The one picture is obviously of Kurt and I out to eat-you can't really tell but that is the Atlantic Ocean behind us and there was an awesome lightening storm over the water that we watched as we ate. And the other is a picture of me and my two brothers. The one on the left is Ryan, he is 30 and the one on the right is Roddy, he is 13 and a freshmen in high school!
I feel comfortable asking this because I know this family is filled with amazing prayer warriors...I would really appreciate it if you would pray for both of my brothers. Ryan has not always made the best decisions and "hung out with a bad crowd" in high school but he is really starting to mature and change. He and his girlfriend have recently started going to church again and it is such a blessing to watch him become the man God has created him to be. Please pray for strength to make the right decisions and faith to believe and remember what he was taught as a child. Please also pray for my little brother. For those of you that don't know my parents are divorced and Roddy is my 1/2 brother through my dad and step-mom. Well, our dad died about 2 years ago and Roddy has had the most difficult time with it. Please also pray that God gives him strength and fills that missing void. Thanx!
As far as Kurt and I go....nothing is to exciting! I am currently sitting in my office feeling a little woozy due some fumes coming from our bathroom....wait a minute, that didn't quite sound right. We are having our tub reglazed because we live in an older house and our tub wigged us out enough that we wouldn't even feel comfortable taking a bath in it. So we finally bit the bullet and are having it reglazed. I can't wait to see what it looks like!
Kurt has been working at Jack Dekkinga Dermatology as a PA now since September and he loves it. He works 3 days a week in Grandville and 2 days a week in Holland! I am so proud of Kurt...he is a great provider and he is continually stepping out of his comfort zone to change and grow. God has huge plans to use him to impact thousands of people and it is so fun to watch it as his wife and #1 supporter! We were just talking last night how we are definitely equally yoked and were made for each other. Kurt is super excited for winter to be done so he can start fishin again...I'm amazed how much time he can spend just looking at fishing gear online and how many different lures and what-not he buys! But I guess he probably wonders why I buy so many purses and shoes! :)
As for me, I still work at St. Mary's in Labor and Delivery but only a couple of days a month. I now work for an OB-Gyn office and 1 Dr. in particular. I am in charge of scheduling all of his surgeries, doing special procedure in the office, and the most fun for me...is getting him organized, which is quite a task in itself. I am really enjoying it and it is way less stressful that working full time at the hospital! I am currently training for the 53rd River Bank Run again (its a 15 mile race on May 12) and I have had a few bumps in the road-so any prayers for healing and a healthy body would be much appreciated!
Kurt and I also have our business which keeps us busy too! We love working together and having common goals as a married couple. It has most definitely impacted and grown our marriage tremendously and we wholeheartedly feel it is what God has called us to do and how we can make a difference in this world and fill the book of life!
Other than that...nothing new and exciting is going on with us! Thanx for letting me share and I'm sorry if I rambled on to much! We love you all!
Love Kurt and Lis

What I Learned from Summit

I will always look back on my trip to Summit Ministries in Colorado as the event that started me down the road to adulthood. It changed a lot of things for me. Some changes were immediate, but some of them took years for me to even notice. Like a tiny seed that doesn’t even begin to grow until the conditions are right. Then a little rain comes down, the soil softens, and suddenly there’s a beautiful flower in your life that seems to have come from nowhere. Here are some of those flowers.

The first thing I learned from summit was how to face fear and push past it. I know this may sound kind of crazy, but I don’t think I ever did something truly on my own until I went to Colorado. I was terrified to get on that plane alone and fly out into the unknown. What if I missed a connecting flight? What if I couldn’t find the bus to take me to Summit? How do I find my luggage once I’m in Colorado? There were so many questions without answers. If I had been given a choice whether to leave or stay the morning that I left I’m certain I would have chosen the “safe” thing to do and stayed home. However, I was in a position where I hadn’t left myself a choice, and so I stepped out into the unknown. It was terrifying and exhilarating at the same time, and I have discovered along the way that this is how it should be. If we aren’t regularly facing fears, then we have allowed ourselves to lounge around in the comfort zone of life. It sure is cozy, but it sure isn’t living!

After pushing past the fear, my adventure started almost as soon as I got on the plane. I saw two beautiful girls around my age on the plane. I thought they were a bit older, but I couldn’t tell for sure. When I arrived in Colorado, I overheard them talking and realized that they were on their way to Summit as well. Karen and Sarah ended up talking with me on the bus ride from the airport, but at the time I was painfully shy (as most of you probably remember). Any way, as soon as we got to Summit they were flocked by other guys that were a lot more confident. I spent the next few days keeping an eye on them from across the room and saying “Hi” when I got the chance. After a few more days they started spending more time talking to me and hanging out with me. That was when I realized that sincere, nice, and shy still beats confident and annoying! It never went beyond a friendship, but it was still a big boost to my self-confidence to realize that being myself was okay!

The adventure continued the entire time I was there. It was like a giant social experiment with me right in the middle. Of course there was the trip to the Garden of the Gods, and the white water rafting, but I actually learned more from taking a trip to the Laundromat. Again, it probably sounds stupid, but I was all up in knots about how I was going to get some clothes washed. That’s when I learned that there are always other people in life around you that need the same things you do. Keep your ears open and you’ll find help from them some days, and other days they’ll find help from you. I was able to tag along with some other guys and I just followed their lead. Presto – clean clothes. New challenges can be scary, but they’re seldom as difficult to overcome as you think.

Then there were the classes. They taught me to learn to question what you read, hear, and watch. We all have a brain for a reason. We should collect as much information as possible from as many different sources as possible on any given subject. Then take some time to digest what we’ve learned and finally make some decisions on what we really believe about the subject. Of course, our decisions will be based on our worldview, which is another thing that Summit taught me.

Everyone has a view of the world around them. It’s developed from what you’ve read, what you learned in school, what you’ve seen on the news, the movies you’ve watched, and the principles you were taught by the people in your life. Well, at least that’s the raw material for your world view. What comes next is the most important thing – what you do with the raw material. Most people just take the path of least resistance – they accept everything they’ve seen, heard, and been taught as the truth. They let someone, everyone else define the way they look at the world - the lens through which everything else is focused. What an incredibly dangerous thing to do!! Why would we let the most important decisions we make every day be influenced to such a large extent by the world around us. In case you haven’t noticed, the world we live in is a hailstorm of negativity and half-truths. Summit taught me not to accept everything the way most of the world does. Develop a world-view based on the word of God, and let that be the foundation for your life, because the storms will come.

And the storms are not random events… There really are forces working against us, and if we don’t do anything about it they will succeed. Summit taught me that we all need to stand up for what we believe even when it’s unpopular. We need to question everything and continually point people back to the truth – God is real and so is Satan. If we aren’t living for one, than we are living for the other. There is no middle ground. So, take a side (the right one), grab a weapon (the word of God), and join the battle. We already know that we ultimately win, but don’t we want to kick some butt while we’re in the battle? I do, and that leads me to the flower that has taken the longest to bloom.

The most precious thing I learned, and the one that has taken my whole life so far to realize is that we only get one shot at life. That’s it! Am I going to live a small life of insignificance? Am I going to have a nice suburban family with a nice job and nice friends? Am I going to occupy my time with small concerns? Am I going to be remembered as a nice guy? My answer is to that is the same as John Eldredge’s in “Wild at Heart” – No Way!! I want to be a world changer. I want to make an impact that spans generations. I want to go to my grave with thousands of people hating me. Yep, you read that right. I want to stand up as a beacon of truth in the world, and that is one thing that no one can remain indifferent to. It will either change you or really tick you off, and either one is fine with me.

So, I’ve made the choice to pursue a life of significance. I have a plan and I’m working toward it every single day. I have an awesome family backing me up, and some fantastic mentors guiding me down the path. But most importantly, I have God on my side and He has promised that “all things are possible to him that believes (Mark 9:23).” I’ve just decided to be someone that believes.

So thank you Grandpa and Grandma for sending all of us to Summit!! It must have been a very large investment for you, but the return will certainly be infinite and eternal. You were the original world changers in my life, and I’m so proud to be a part of your family, your legacy. I love you both!

ARIZONA

Hello! We (David & I) just returned from Tucson, AZ. We visited my parents who drove the motorhome out a couple of weeks ago and are staying in a condo in Oro Valley. We had a wonderful time.
Andrea & Tim, Ryan & Ross came out this weekend and will be home tonight but here they are laying by the pool trying to warm our white and freezing cold bodies :) Right behind is Mt. Lemmon, which has snow on the top!
Our last breakfast together before we headed home, trying to soak every last bit of AZ sun.
Although out of order, this is Mt. Lemmon, quite the experience getting to the top.
All David's chickens needed was to be left alone! His first eggs . . . . always a fun discovery!
Stacey & Jason head out this weekend. . . . .they are going to have a blast! I'm sure she will astound you with her photography when she returns!

A Vander Veen Update...

Hi Everyone! It has been quite awhile since we posted a blog so I thought I would send a quick update. Things have been a little crazy around here... Mostly good, but a few rough patches.

My grandpa has been in and out of the hospital and isn't doing well at all. He is 88 and has lived a long wonderful life. My grandma passed away sixteen years ago and he has lived alone since then. He has taken very good care of himself and has never really had any health complications. He lives in Lansing which is where my mom and dad grew up. My parents went to Lansing to see him a week and a half ago and he couldn't answer the door. They had to call 911 to get into the house and found him in bed unable to get up. So they rushed him to the hospital. Since then he has been in and out of a hospital in Lansing, living is Spring Lake with my mom & dad, and now is in Hackley Hospital. It has been pretty rough on my mom because her brother (my uncle) is stuck in Las Vegas. He was on vacation when this all started and all the flights out of Vegas were cancelled last Sunday. With everyone trying to get new flights, he couldn't get back into GR until tonight. My mom was with my grandpa last night and he told her he has been asking God why he can't just die? It was a pretty tough conversation for my mom to have with him. Then early this morning he almost stopped breathing but he still fought through it. If you all could pray, it would be great. We are praying for two things. On one hand my grandpa says that he is ready to die. He is saved and he knows where he is going. But on the other hand, he talks about how he still wants to be able to drive. So it seems that he is torn. We have been praying that God gives him a peace and for God to give him clear direction. The second thing I would love you to pray about is my uncle. I am sensing two things with him. First of all, I am not sure he is saved. Secondly, when my grandma died, he was not with her. He has had a tremendous amount of guilt from that situation and honestly has never dealt with it. So him being stuck in Las Vegas has been very rough on him. So I want to pray a peace over him, a speedy return, and for God to show himself to my uncle Lon through all of this. I want to pray a healing over him from all the hurt from the past. That God would bring reconciliation in his life. From my understanding, my uncle did get saved at one point in his life. So as far as his salvation, that is between him & the Lord. But I do know that he is not currently living his life for the Lord. He has judged my mom for her relationship with the Lord many times. So I really want to pray that he will see God working through this situation in a powerful way that will draw him unto Him! It is such a blessing to have such huge family of believers. You are all so awesome! Oh Yes... one more prayer request. Elli has been sick and that has caused a few complications with my grandpa. So if you could pray for health in our family so we can do what we need to do, that would be great!

Beyond that, things are going really well. Tori is a little reader and writer so school has been awesome! Both girls are in gymnastics and swimming at the Y. Elli actually has her first swimming on Thursday but Tori is a fish. I think Elli may be a little timid in swimming but we will see. I am coaching a few gymnastics classes at the Y while the girls are in class. I am actually Tori's coach. I thought it would be rough but it has been OK. They are both loving it! Mark is doing great. He is really stepping into his anointing in the business world and it is so fun to watch. He has just finished reading a book called the Slight Edge and it has made quite an impact on him. He is such an awesome man. We just had a 'Hero Day' with our girls on Saturday. We took them to Nana V's work... which is amazing for all you parents out there. We have a thing in our family that whenever anyone does something extraordinary, they earn a hero card. Once someone has earned 10 hero cards, they get to pick an outing. Both Tori & Elli earned 10 at the same time, so we did an extra special combo Hero Day outing. They loved it! I was pretty bummed that I forgot my camera. (Not like me) Well, I think that is about it. Thanks for all the prayers and we all hope everyone is doing well!

Update

Ok! things have sort of been settling down here in Honduras and I wanted to update you all on what has been going on. First of all, THANKYOU for your support, love, comments, and most of all prayers. How blessed I am to have a family like this...I love you!

So, last week both Carlos and I had meetings with our superintendent who wanted us to get married within a month to 6wks. YIKES! We told her that wasn't a wise decision for us at this point and as a result we have "lost" our jobs. However, since the school cannot legally fire us because I'm pregnant they are still paying me through the end of my contract (June) and have even agreed to extend my insurance through Dec. in case there are complications with the baby/delivery etc. SO, overall, I think this is a blessing in disguise. I do understand the school's position and reasoning and I'm thankful for their understanding. As of March 2 I will no longer be working, which, as a result allows me to come home sooner! Yay! Right now I am planning on coming home end of March/beginning of April and staying until the middle of June. The school has asked that I stay in Tegus for a few weeks to help transition the new teacher who will take over my position (my poor kids), which I am very happy to do.

Carlos and I are in the process of discussing what would be the best option for us as a couple and have tossed the idea of a legal/civil (basically signing papers) ceremony and then having a wedding in the spring of 2008. This way we can be together when the baby is born. As of now, it seems to be the best/ most logical option. I'll keep you updated.

Speaking of Carlos I want to "introduce" you to him a little before you actually get to meet him. He is Honduran (one of the few tall ones ;)) although he and his family moved to the States when he was 2yrs old. He was raised in a Christian home, and yes, he loves Jesus too! He lived in Atlanta, Georgia until he was about 12/13yrs old. English was technically his "first" language (he speaks perfect English :)) because he went through all of elementary school in the states, although Spanish was of course spoken at home. He lives with his mom Carmen, his older sister Aileene, a younger sister Andrea, and a younger brother Jose (Joseph). When Carlos was 20yrs old (he's 22 now) his dad died of health related issues after a blot clot in the brain, up until that point Carlos was 2yrs into a computer engineering program at a university here in Tegus. When his dad died Carlos changed career courses for a less demanding administration degree (which he'll finish in Mar) so he could support his family. I am continually amazed that somone his age has supported his family the way he has. One of Carlos' major goals is to finish the engineering degree (he's about 2yrs short), mostly for his dad who was a major support/advocate for him in college. I am so sad I was never able to meet Carlos, the dad :), I moved down here about 3mo. after he died. Carlos (my Carlos) loves sports, and especially playing basketball, which is initially how we first met, we were playing up at the school and I challenged him to 1-on-1 (yes, I was probably flirting...:)) and I beat him...several times (ok, only twice ;)). And like a true Latino, he loves soccer too. :). Some of the things I love about him...his heart/genorosity...he hates to see people hungry or needing something and does what he can to fix that, especially for his family. He makes me laugh (and yes, sometimes cry), he's very smart/ good with money (a huge sigh of relief for me) and he will be a wonderful father...ok, at the risk of making him sound perfect...i know he's not ;), there are, of course things i would change...but, overall, I'm happy! A few days ago he spoiled me and took me out to get my hair cut/colored and a pedicure/manicure...It had been almost a year since my hair had seen some TLC. I felt special!

Earlier this week Carlos had an interview/was offered a new postion administering a "cushy" bar/restaurant here in the city. It is a significant increase financially for him and something he is/has studied in school...all good things. You know, I'm not sure I'll ever understand his need to provide/support, but for the 3days ish that he was "jobless" he was definitely stressed/ on edge. But since he has accepted this new position its like he's a new person, dancing around, singing, making me laugh...more relaxed! Thankyou Jesus for that provision. As far as my job goes, I had a great job lined up teaching in the fall at a different school, but that has since fallen through due to my pregnancy...who wants to hire 2teachers instead of 1? :P. The baby is due in the beginning of September, so I wouldn't actually start work again until Nov/Dec. at the earliest. Carlos has told me that as of now, I don't need to worry about finding a job until 2008, something I'm so happy about, I really want to be able to be home for a time with this precious baby. Although, neither of us really know how expensive this is going to be...so I'm really hoping we can afford that :).

Please continue to pray for us...there are still a lot of decisions that need to be made and we really want to make the wisest ones. I love you all!

good morning

Good morning all the the TerBeeks! (It's Stacey) I know it's 1:16am why am I so chipper? No clue, absolutely no clue. Actually I'm tired but I can't bring myself to get into into my cozy bed just yet. Soon, very soon. Jason is working on school work in his "office" (spare bedroom) right now. He's getting ahead of schedule so this weekend he doesn't feel like he has to spend the whole time reading books and writing his paper. Plus next week is the last week before spring break starts and I don't think that he can even get excited until he is all done with everything. I am a different story. I can't wait for Spring Break. Today I was already going through the list in my head of what clothes I can bring! We leave for Tuscon Arizona next Saturday! Hopefully we will get a lot of sunning and hiking done and don't worry I will take a ton of pictures. There is not much else going on in the UP right now. They (whoever "they" are) say it's supposed to snow and blow tonight, but currently it's 30's and raining...but we do live in Michigan. We did decide to "give up" TV for Lent this year. It's a time sucker and we wanted to be a little more productive and use our time more wisely. Just today I cut all the pieces for a quilt I am making and I hand sewed one square tonight after meeting with some girls to study. I'll take pictures when it's done. I am so excited it's very bright! I don't mean to be light about Lent but if you want to read more about why I observe it, I just wrote about it on my blog...just click HERE.
Well hopefully everyone else got to bed sooner than I did. Have a wonderful Thursday!-Stacey

News!

Hi family! I have a hard, but necessary blog to write! So please bear with me as I fumble through this :). About two weeks ago I got engaged! SURPRISE :)! But I also found out I am about 9wks pregnant. Needless to say these last few weeks have been a whirlwind of emotions...and still is, to be honest. My fiancee's (isn't he good looking ;)) name is Carlos Valladares. We love each other and do want to get married...as of now we are working through the surprise of a baby and when and how we will get married. And, unfortunately I don't have very many answers for you, because WE don't have answers yet. We work at a Christian school and we have sinned...and will have to face those consequences from the school. I know that we are forgiven in God's eyes...and that is what is MORE important than anything else! But...there still comes other situations to deal with...we have a meeting on Fri to tell our boss a date for when we will get married- which they want to be sooner than later. I am not comfortable rushing into a marriage at this point...I know I want to be with him, I know that it will be hard...on all levels, and these are choices that I made and consequences that I will have to handle. Carlos has been such a support to me from food, to defending me, to just hugging me as I cry. And I know these last few weeks would have been so hard to deal with if Carlos hadn't been here with me. I have wonderful support from church, my family, Carlos's family, and the friends I have told down here. I know this baby is not a mistake...and that God is in control...there's just so much to deal with right now. I don't know when Carlos and I will get married...we both want things to stabilize between us as a couple, but I know we will do what we have to to be a family. This is really hard to write...but I do want you all to know and to pray. Health-wise I have THANKFULLY had no morning sickness...I've just been exhausted all the time. We have a great doctor here who actually delivered Carlos years ago! SO...please be praying for this new life, Carlos and I as a couple, and job situations! Thank-you for your love and support, I'll try to keep you updated as things become clearer down here. I love you all.
