Thank-you for your prayers

Dearest Ones. We are overwhelmed with the greatest & goodness of our great Big God. Ashton surgery went so very well, he is home , I just left him. You would never believe that he had heart surgery not even a week ago. He was sitting in his high chair & had a big grin on his face when I walked in. The surgeon said that Ashton was the only patient they ever had who wanted to sit up immediately after surgery. What a precious little guy. Thank-you to those of you who called to check & see how he was doing, and Barb & Rachel for bringing meals... and all the rest of the gang who prayed. We so appreciate you, thanks. Gramma has survived even though she always wears the same shirt & has turkey breath in the morning. Ya gotta love the honesty of our kids..... Our home will be shockingly quiet for the next few days. I might even take a nap. I love ya'll Aunt Donna

Amazing Grace

Just wanted to share with all of you the difference one person can make for people thousands of miles away. Grandma TerBeek has been knitting like crazy this winter. The afghans were sent down to the Dominican Republic with our friends, the Bodenner's, who handed them out at the 'nursing home' (don't be thinking Brookcrest . . . not even remotely close) where they have no heat and it can get pretty chilly. Thank you Grandma TerBeek for being such a great example of how one person can bless others in their own very special way.
~aunt renee (just wanted to clarify because you KNOW that Grandma would never blow her own horn . . . even if 7 little Dominican grandma's were warmer today because of her!)

SOLO

Congratulations Ross on your first solo flight!

birthdays

I'm not sure if there are more birthdays than this, for this week and last week but i wanted to make sure that you are loved.

Last Saturday: 3/10 HAPPY BIRTHDAY TASHINA!
Yesterday: 3/11 HAPPY BIRTHDAY JEN VANDER VEEN!
Today: 3/12 HAPPY BIRTHDAY LEAH!

Need your help...

http://www.jfci.org/pages/page.asp?page_id=9362

Please watch this video. Any of you connected to anyone, any organization, list of contacts or networks... I'm asking you to help me raise awareness for JFCI. I just met with the co-founder, Rob Morris, this evening...and literally what he and a handful of other people in the world are trying to do is abolish present day slavery in the form of child sex trafficking. And they need to raise awareness, raise funds to build safehouses, find people interested in managing safehouses, or be counselors. It's global. Over 17,000 children are trafficked into the USA alone. East Asia, Eastern Europe and West Africa are the global hotspots for this activity.

JFCI is an organization that thought before it acted. Everything is in place. They are ready to move and geared to handle the response. Please, let's be a family that responds to ending slavery. There are over 27 million slaves in the world today, and 2 million children annually are sold into slavery...either by abduction or being sold by their parents, mostly little girls, & most of them under the age of 6.

Please help in any way you can. Our family is all over, and with just our family alone we could do something pretty amazing to end this. We were gathered in a house this evening: all races, sizes, shapes, male, female, faiths and ages. It was really excruciating and exciting at the same time.

Love to all of you. Jennifer

ps. Personal update, I don't know whether I'm staying or leaving San Diego. I need to have a job this week. Please pray for the open door...and for the courage to walk through the door. I'll keep you posted.

ashton's report

Donna just called and reported Ashton is out of surgery @11:30 the
report is the heart is working properly, the reason it is enlarging is because
of the restriction in his lower circulatory system, --- which they have corrected, the way they went into the heart, is under the arm (instead of
going into the chest from the front, much faster recovery, but very painful
soooo they will keep him sedated for probably three days while he recovers in i c u. please keep praying more later on his progress P.TL

arizona sunsets

Hello all from AZ! I just wanted to post pictures of the best sunset I have ever seen. I'm just sending a little warmth back to Michigan! Love you. Jason and Stacey

I didn´t fall off the end of the world....

Oooooook. So, it´s been awhile. :D Here´s what´s been going on in my life.

First off, my Honduras experience. It was amazing! I loved being there and to be able to spend months with family after going for months without them...incredible. As you all know, Leah came to visit us and we had an awesome time. When she left, I began volunteering at the Hope Center and with the kindergarten classes at Tasha´s school. I fell in love with the HC kids! And with pretty much everyone from church. The kids in the pics up top are some of my favorites. From the left it´s Yeimy, Alex, and Hector. We had a water fight one day, but it was hilarious because the girls had no idea how to use the guns, and they didn´t like it very much. But the boys couldnt´get enough! The whole time was such an amazing experience for me that I´m going to be making a ¨pit stop¨ on my way home. In July I´ll leave here and head back to spend as much time as I can in Tegus before classes start again in the fall.
Speaking of classes, I started classes here this week. So far they seem to be going well. I think that I´m taking Communication and Chilean Culture; Chilean Dialect; Chilean and Hispanic American Literature; 20th Century History through the Cinema; History and Geography of Chile; and Lectures of the Psalms. Hmm...I think I have some sort of theme with Chile or something. :) I really like my Culture class, there´s a good group of gringos and the prof seems really relaxed. He told me today that I´m Chilena. He meant that I speak with a Chilean accent and use their slang and such. It made my day!

Starting last Friday night, my two ¨wingmen¨ (two friends from last semester who´ve stayed and we´ve been betting to know each other better) and I made a pact that we´re not goign to speak any English at all for teh rest of teh semester. Of course I can with all of you, but down here it´s all Spanish. So far we´ve done pretty good. There have been a few slips, but...I´ve already noticed an improvement, as have others. So it´s worth it. The big test though will be this weekend when we go to Pucón with the whole CIEE gang. It´s a 12 hour bus ride with 40-some gringos...I hope I can remember to speak Spanish despite the fact that I´ll be hearing mostly English.

Before classes started though, one of my friends and I decided to go into Valparaíso and get lost. Viña del Mar and Valparaíso are sister cities, but Viña, where we live, is cleaner, richer, and in general more snobby. Valpo, where we go to school, on the other hand is dirtier, poorer, and has the best atmosphere. Last semester we spent most of our time in Viña because it was easier, so now we´re trying to make a point of getting to know Valpo. Anyway, we ended up at the ex-carcel. It´s an old prison that was used during Pinochet´s days to house political prisoners. Now it´s been converted into a cultural center of sorts where there´s amazing graffiiti artwork on the walls and the larger rooms are used for concerts and there´s even a theater. Anyway, we met the most adorable puppy. It made me want to take it home with me. So here he is sitting on my lap.

So, to sum things up, I´m adjusting to being a student again while missing both of my homes. :) I love you all and I really do miss seeing everyone. Besitos!

Velderman Family Update

Alright....so I feel like lots has been happening since I've updated everyone last. This may be a little lengthy but let's face it, everyone secretly LOVES the long ones right?!? =) I guess I'll start back a little while and work my way to today. The picture of the kids with Kurt and I was at Gavin's birthday party. I ended up coming a day earlier than I expected (thanks to my fabulous husband that convinced me I needed the break!) so I got to be there for the V.V. side of the party. I stayed through Sat. for Gavin's sleepover with his 5 friends. It was really fun to be there for Gavin, I feel privledged to have the relationship I do with my precious nephew. I was supposed to stay overnight Sat. and come home Sun. but as some of you may remember (alright you girls in the warm parts of the country - quit laughing!!) they predicted a pretty nasty ice/sleet/snow storm to hit Sat. night so I thought I better head home before it hit. I was really sad, and that was an understatement, to leave so suddenly but had to be home by Sun because Dan was headed out of town Mon. morning for work. Sigh.....I still feel bad about leaving, partially because I looked forward to the scavenger hunt/pinyata (sp?)/dessert part of the party, but it was such fun being at my sisters house and spending time with her. We talk lots on the phone but that's just not the same as actually spending time together. I still struggle with being away from my family since moving up here sometimes. It's just treasured time, but another life lesson God is teaching me. Just to rest in Him and be content where he's placed me. Gotta love those life lessons right?!? However, it didn't help that Bren was crying as I drove off (sigh again...) - I kept telling myself it was the pregnancy hormones but honestly we were just sad to cut the visit short. It was a really hard trip home, I don't know how many times I felt like turning around but knew I couldn't. ANYHOW.....I was glad that I came a day early as I may not have come otherwise if I would've knew about the storm so for that, I'm grateful. We did games, presents, sleds behind the quad....all in all I think Gav was a happy boy for his THIRD b-day party in a row!!!!
Onto the next picture., Daddy had taken Makayla outside while mommy rested and when they told me to come outside they had made a snow fort around a tree in the front yard. Leave it to daddy to make special memories with his baby girl....they truely have a special bond. We've had lots of fun with the fort since he made it, she likes to hide and then have us come find her. =)
Makayla and I have been busy painting, painting and painting some more. Finally the task is finished and looks adorable! Of course it was my big idea (somehow Dan's usually not on board with my new projects!!) to get started while he was out of town for 3 days. I got Makayla all phyched out about helping paint, so we went to Home Depot and picked it up. While the guy was mixing it Makayla kept saying "That's FOR ME!!"....and so on it went with every painting item I picked up!!! =) The next morning we were downstairs by 8 a.m. painting because as soon as she opened her peepers she remembered what we were going to do and got right up! With painting clothes donned we tackled the job...and let me just say I'm impressed with how well and how long she hung in there with me. And surprisingly enough she was a really big help! She loves it and is excited to move downstairs as I've said before, the basement needs to get finished first so it'll probably be a few months yet. I've got everything I need to put it together so once I get the go ahead I'll be right on it - - I love seeing the finished product! =) The picture was her on her toy phone pretending to chat to daddy while painting. Needless to say, I'd just gotten off the phone with Brenda so she thought she imitate mommy! =)
I went to the doctor for the first time yesterday and found out I'm 11 weeks along (I thought I was 10 weeks) and my official due date is Sept. 26. I go again next week for an ultrasound to get the most accurate due date but I doubt it will change much. It's kinda hard to believe I'm almost 3 months along already...seems like I just found out I was pregnant yesterday! And the "yuckies" have stayed away for about a week now so I'm assuming they're gone for good. Very grateful for that although I'm so excited about this little treasure I'd go through just about anything to have it here and be healthy! =)
The basement has kinda been at a stand still.....the next step is drywall but Dan hasn't gotten to that part yet. Soon I think although I don't say much about it these days.....he got a little testy when he thought I was getting pushy about getting it finished so I backed off. Smart girl huh? It's just hard cuzz I feel like it's getting close and it'll be SO nice to have the space down here all done! All in good time......I'm grateful that Dan is as handy as he is and is saving all that money by doing it himself. He's awesome!
Alright well I got superballs flying around behind me and Dan's on the phone so I'm gonna get going. We're headed back this weekend for another fast 'n furious trip for Mom's/Jen's birthday party....I think I may be spending a few extra days after Dan goes back because he's headed out of town for a few days and we get a little lonely after awhile by ourselves. =)
A prayer request if ya think of it....we're still in search of a home church and it really stinks to be in limbo with that. The church we thought would be the one we're finding out has some core beliefs that completely contradict ours.....and probably not something we'd be able to overlook and feel comfortable about. But it would be nice to feel settled somewhere and sooner better than later would be fantastic! Love you all - so thankful for the fabulous family we're so blessed to be a part of! Keep on blogging.....

HAPPY BIRTHDAY AUNT BARBARA!!

A Goodbye...

Hey everyone! I just wanted to give you all a quick update and thank you all for your prayers. My grandpa passed away on Thursday. The wonderful answer to prayer is that my uncle did get home in time. To be honest, my grandpa really did have to fight for that to occur. But then an hour before my uncle got to the hospital, my grandpa stabilized. The next day his doctor said he actually thought he could recover. I had mixed feelings about that. He was ready to go. And it became more and more evident to us as a family that the end was near. He was stable through the rest of the day and then we were called to the hospital that night. Then he stabilized again. The next day there wasn't much change. My mom and my uncle had to make the difficult decision to take his oxygen mask off. It was what my grandpa had wanted. They gave him morphine so he wouldn't feel any pain. This was at 2:00 in the afternoon and they told us they didn't expect him to make it through the night. He was gone in twenty minutes.

Everyone is asking me how I am doing? To be honest, it has been a lot more difficult than I was expecting. I remember sitting next to him in the hospital holding his hand. There was this moment that I looked in his eyes... and I realized I had the same color eyes as him. I thought to myself, those are my eyes. I can not explain what I felt. A part of me was dying with him. This was the grandpa that always took us to get ice cream. He took me out to pizza more times than I can count. He was the man that everyone loved... wherever we went. He & my grandma loved each other so much that they secretly eloped and then went back to live at their parents house. They didn't tell anyone! (Can you imagine!) They were married for almost 50 years. He was such a spit fire and had all of us laughing in the hospital the entire time. He was a fighter. He was all of this, but most of all he was the grandpa that I was closest to. Sometimes I think you don't realize how much you love someone until they are gone. I don't have any regrets. My kids knew him. He knew I loved him. But even then, I didn't know I would have such a hole in my heart. My grandma used to tell my mom, Better to have loved and lost then to never have loved before. I think that sums it up. I am honored to know that I came from him. He was a fighter and he was strong. God told me he was one of his fighters. It is so cool to know that I come from that. We need to be speaking that into our families. Kim & Dan's kids can say the same. Aaron & Barb's kids can say the same. (And many other examples) There was a warrior that I could feel rise up in my spirit as I watched him and knew that I had that same spirit. Although the emotions have been high this week, the Lord spoke to me so clearly through many situations. As in any situation in life, the Lord was with us every step of the way. Now my grandpa is with Him... and my grandma. What more could I want for him?

Thanks for all your prayers! You are an awesome family!

Love, Jen

Kurt & Lisa Update

Hello Beloved Family-
Kurt and I just love reading the blog and probably check it almost daily so we thought that we should contribute now and then. No big news to announce or anything but we thought that we should still give a little update on the happenins' at our homefront!
I posted a couple of pictures from our trip to Florida a couple of weeks ago! We went to Florida to celebrate my grandparents 50th wedding anniversary (they live in Florida) and it was such a great time and we were blessed with beautiful weather and no tornado's!!! (For those of you that don't know-I have a tiny fear of tornado's that I am overcoming everyday!!) Kurt and I are so blessed to have grandparents on both sides that are such great examples of a Godly marriage! The one picture is obviously of Kurt and I out to eat-you can't really tell but that is the Atlantic Ocean behind us and there was an awesome lightening storm over the water that we watched as we ate. And the other is a picture of me and my two brothers. The one on the left is Ryan, he is 30 and the one on the right is Roddy, he is 13 and a freshmen in high school!
I feel comfortable asking this because I know this family is filled with amazing prayer warriors...I would really appreciate it if you would pray for both of my brothers. Ryan has not always made the best decisions and "hung out with a bad crowd" in high school but he is really starting to mature and change. He and his girlfriend have recently started going to church again and it is such a blessing to watch him become the man God has created him to be. Please pray for strength to make the right decisions and faith to believe and remember what he was taught as a child. Please also pray for my little brother. For those of you that don't know my parents are divorced and Roddy is my 1/2 brother through my dad and step-mom. Well, our dad died about 2 years ago and Roddy has had the most difficult time with it. Please also pray that God gives him strength and fills that missing void. Thanx!
As far as Kurt and I go....nothing is to exciting! I am currently sitting in my office feeling a little woozy due some fumes coming from our bathroom....wait a minute, that didn't quite sound right. We are having our tub reglazed because we live in an older house and our tub wigged us out enough that we wouldn't even feel comfortable taking a bath in it. So we finally bit the bullet and are having it reglazed. I can't wait to see what it looks like!
Kurt has been working at Jack Dekkinga Dermatology as a PA now since September and he loves it. He works 3 days a week in Grandville and 2 days a week in Holland! I am so proud of Kurt...he is a great provider and he is continually stepping out of his comfort zone to change and grow. God has huge plans to use him to impact thousands of people and it is so fun to watch it as his wife and #1 supporter! We were just talking last night how we are definitely equally yoked and were made for each other. Kurt is super excited for winter to be done so he can start fishin again...I'm amazed how much time he can spend just looking at fishing gear online and how many different lures and what-not he buys! But I guess he probably wonders why I buy so many purses and shoes! :)
As for me, I still work at St. Mary's in Labor and Delivery but only a couple of days a month. I now work for an OB-Gyn office and 1 Dr. in particular. I am in charge of scheduling all of his surgeries, doing special procedure in the office, and the most fun for me...is getting him organized, which is quite a task in itself. I am really enjoying it and it is way less stressful that working full time at the hospital! I am currently training for the 53rd River Bank Run again (its a 15 mile race on May 12) and I have had a few bumps in the road-so any prayers for healing and a healthy body would be much appreciated!
Kurt and I also have our business which keeps us busy too! We love working together and having common goals as a married couple. It has most definitely impacted and grown our marriage tremendously and we wholeheartedly feel it is what God has called us to do and how we can make a difference in this world and fill the book of life!
Other than that...nothing new and exciting is going on with us! Thanx for letting me share and I'm sorry if I rambled on to much! We love you all!
Love Kurt and Lis

What I Learned from Summit

I will always look back on my trip to Summit Ministries in Colorado as the event that started me down the road to adulthood. It changed a lot of things for me. Some changes were immediate, but some of them took years for me to even notice. Like a tiny seed that doesn’t even begin to grow until the conditions are right. Then a little rain comes down, the soil softens, and suddenly there’s a beautiful flower in your life that seems to have come from nowhere. Here are some of those flowers.

The first thing I learned from summit was how to face fear and push past it. I know this may sound kind of crazy, but I don’t think I ever did something truly on my own until I went to Colorado. I was terrified to get on that plane alone and fly out into the unknown. What if I missed a connecting flight? What if I couldn’t find the bus to take me to Summit? How do I find my luggage once I’m in Colorado? There were so many questions without answers. If I had been given a choice whether to leave or stay the morning that I left I’m certain I would have chosen the “safe” thing to do and stayed home. However, I was in a position where I hadn’t left myself a choice, and so I stepped out into the unknown. It was terrifying and exhilarating at the same time, and I have discovered along the way that this is how it should be. If we aren’t regularly facing fears, then we have allowed ourselves to lounge around in the comfort zone of life. It sure is cozy, but it sure isn’t living!

After pushing past the fear, my adventure started almost as soon as I got on the plane. I saw two beautiful girls around my age on the plane. I thought they were a bit older, but I couldn’t tell for sure. When I arrived in Colorado, I overheard them talking and realized that they were on their way to Summit as well. Karen and Sarah ended up talking with me on the bus ride from the airport, but at the time I was painfully shy (as most of you probably remember). Any way, as soon as we got to Summit they were flocked by other guys that were a lot more confident. I spent the next few days keeping an eye on them from across the room and saying “Hi” when I got the chance. After a few more days they started spending more time talking to me and hanging out with me. That was when I realized that sincere, nice, and shy still beats confident and annoying! It never went beyond a friendship, but it was still a big boost to my self-confidence to realize that being myself was okay!

The adventure continued the entire time I was there. It was like a giant social experiment with me right in the middle. Of course there was the trip to the Garden of the Gods, and the white water rafting, but I actually learned more from taking a trip to the Laundromat. Again, it probably sounds stupid, but I was all up in knots about how I was going to get some clothes washed. That’s when I learned that there are always other people in life around you that need the same things you do. Keep your ears open and you’ll find help from them some days, and other days they’ll find help from you. I was able to tag along with some other guys and I just followed their lead. Presto – clean clothes. New challenges can be scary, but they’re seldom as difficult to overcome as you think.

Then there were the classes. They taught me to learn to question what you read, hear, and watch. We all have a brain for a reason. We should collect as much information as possible from as many different sources as possible on any given subject. Then take some time to digest what we’ve learned and finally make some decisions on what we really believe about the subject. Of course, our decisions will be based on our worldview, which is another thing that Summit taught me.

Everyone has a view of the world around them. It’s developed from what you’ve read, what you learned in school, what you’ve seen on the news, the movies you’ve watched, and the principles you were taught by the people in your life. Well, at least that’s the raw material for your world view. What comes next is the most important thing – what you do with the raw material. Most people just take the path of least resistance – they accept everything they’ve seen, heard, and been taught as the truth. They let someone, everyone else define the way they look at the world - the lens through which everything else is focused. What an incredibly dangerous thing to do!! Why would we let the most important decisions we make every day be influenced to such a large extent by the world around us. In case you haven’t noticed, the world we live in is a hailstorm of negativity and half-truths. Summit taught me not to accept everything the way most of the world does. Develop a world-view based on the word of God, and let that be the foundation for your life, because the storms will come.

And the storms are not random events… There really are forces working against us, and if we don’t do anything about it they will succeed. Summit taught me that we all need to stand up for what we believe even when it’s unpopular. We need to question everything and continually point people back to the truth – God is real and so is Satan. If we aren’t living for one, than we are living for the other. There is no middle ground. So, take a side (the right one), grab a weapon (the word of God), and join the battle. We already know that we ultimately win, but don’t we want to kick some butt while we’re in the battle? I do, and that leads me to the flower that has taken the longest to bloom.

The most precious thing I learned, and the one that has taken my whole life so far to realize is that we only get one shot at life. That’s it! Am I going to live a small life of insignificance? Am I going to have a nice suburban family with a nice job and nice friends? Am I going to occupy my time with small concerns? Am I going to be remembered as a nice guy? My answer is to that is the same as John Eldredge’s in “Wild at Heart” – No Way!! I want to be a world changer. I want to make an impact that spans generations. I want to go to my grave with thousands of people hating me. Yep, you read that right. I want to stand up as a beacon of truth in the world, and that is one thing that no one can remain indifferent to. It will either change you or really tick you off, and either one is fine with me.

So, I’ve made the choice to pursue a life of significance. I have a plan and I’m working toward it every single day. I have an awesome family backing me up, and some fantastic mentors guiding me down the path. But most importantly, I have God on my side and He has promised that “all things are possible to him that believes (Mark 9:23).” I’ve just decided to be someone that believes.

So thank you Grandpa and Grandma for sending all of us to Summit!! It must have been a very large investment for you, but the return will certainly be infinite and eternal. You were the original world changers in my life, and I’m so proud to be a part of your family, your legacy. I love you both!

ARIZONA

Hello! We (David & I) just returned from Tucson, AZ. We visited my parents who drove the motorhome out a couple of weeks ago and are staying in a condo in Oro Valley. We had a wonderful time.
Andrea & Tim, Ryan & Ross came out this weekend and will be home tonight but here they are laying by the pool trying to warm our white and freezing cold bodies :) Right behind is Mt. Lemmon, which has snow on the top!
Our last breakfast together before we headed home, trying to soak every last bit of AZ sun.
Although out of order, this is Mt. Lemmon, quite the experience getting to the top.
All David's chickens needed was to be left alone! His first eggs . . . . always a fun discovery!
Stacey & Jason head out this weekend. . . . .they are going to have a blast! I'm sure she will astound you with her photography when she returns!

A Vander Veen Update...

Hi Everyone! It has been quite awhile since we posted a blog so I thought I would send a quick update. Things have been a little crazy around here... Mostly good, but a few rough patches.

My grandpa has been in and out of the hospital and isn't doing well at all. He is 88 and has lived a long wonderful life. My grandma passed away sixteen years ago and he has lived alone since then. He has taken very good care of himself and has never really had any health complications. He lives in Lansing which is where my mom and dad grew up. My parents went to Lansing to see him a week and a half ago and he couldn't answer the door. They had to call 911 to get into the house and found him in bed unable to get up. So they rushed him to the hospital. Since then he has been in and out of a hospital in Lansing, living is Spring Lake with my mom & dad, and now is in Hackley Hospital. It has been pretty rough on my mom because her brother (my uncle) is stuck in Las Vegas. He was on vacation when this all started and all the flights out of Vegas were cancelled last Sunday. With everyone trying to get new flights, he couldn't get back into GR until tonight. My mom was with my grandpa last night and he told her he has been asking God why he can't just die? It was a pretty tough conversation for my mom to have with him. Then early this morning he almost stopped breathing but he still fought through it. If you all could pray, it would be great. We are praying for two things. On one hand my grandpa says that he is ready to die. He is saved and he knows where he is going. But on the other hand, he talks about how he still wants to be able to drive. So it seems that he is torn. We have been praying that God gives him a peace and for God to give him clear direction. The second thing I would love you to pray about is my uncle. I am sensing two things with him. First of all, I am not sure he is saved. Secondly, when my grandma died, he was not with her. He has had a tremendous amount of guilt from that situation and honestly has never dealt with it. So him being stuck in Las Vegas has been very rough on him. So I want to pray a peace over him, a speedy return, and for God to show himself to my uncle Lon through all of this. I want to pray a healing over him from all the hurt from the past. That God would bring reconciliation in his life. From my understanding, my uncle did get saved at one point in his life. So as far as his salvation, that is between him & the Lord. But I do know that he is not currently living his life for the Lord. He has judged my mom for her relationship with the Lord many times. So I really want to pray that he will see God working through this situation in a powerful way that will draw him unto Him! It is such a blessing to have such huge family of believers. You are all so awesome! Oh Yes... one more prayer request. Elli has been sick and that has caused a few complications with my grandpa. So if you could pray for health in our family so we can do what we need to do, that would be great!

Beyond that, things are going really well. Tori is a little reader and writer so school has been awesome! Both girls are in gymnastics and swimming at the Y. Elli actually has her first swimming on Thursday but Tori is a fish. I think Elli may be a little timid in swimming but we will see. I am coaching a few gymnastics classes at the Y while the girls are in class. I am actually Tori's coach. I thought it would be rough but it has been OK. They are both loving it! Mark is doing great. He is really stepping into his anointing in the business world and it is so fun to watch. He has just finished reading a book called the Slight Edge and it has made quite an impact on him. He is such an awesome man. We just had a 'Hero Day' with our girls on Saturday. We took them to Nana V's work... which is amazing for all you parents out there. We have a thing in our family that whenever anyone does something extraordinary, they earn a hero card. Once someone has earned 10 hero cards, they get to pick an outing. Both Tori & Elli earned 10 at the same time, so we did an extra special combo Hero Day outing. They loved it! I was pretty bummed that I forgot my camera. (Not like me) Well, I think that is about it. Thanks for all the prayers and we all hope everyone is doing well!

Update

Ok! things have sort of been settling down here in Honduras and I wanted to update you all on what has been going on. First of all, THANKYOU for your support, love, comments, and most of all prayers. How blessed I am to have a family like this...I love you!

So, last week both Carlos and I had meetings with our superintendent who wanted us to get married within a month to 6wks. YIKES! We told her that wasn't a wise decision for us at this point and as a result we have "lost" our jobs. However, since the school cannot legally fire us because I'm pregnant they are still paying me through the end of my contract (June) and have even agreed to extend my insurance through Dec. in case there are complications with the baby/delivery etc. SO, overall, I think this is a blessing in disguise. I do understand the school's position and reasoning and I'm thankful for their understanding. As of March 2 I will no longer be working, which, as a result allows me to come home sooner! Yay! Right now I am planning on coming home end of March/beginning of April and staying until the middle of June. The school has asked that I stay in Tegus for a few weeks to help transition the new teacher who will take over my position (my poor kids), which I am very happy to do.

Carlos and I are in the process of discussing what would be the best option for us as a couple and have tossed the idea of a legal/civil (basically signing papers) ceremony and then having a wedding in the spring of 2008. This way we can be together when the baby is born. As of now, it seems to be the best/ most logical option. I'll keep you updated.

Speaking of Carlos I want to "introduce" you to him a little before you actually get to meet him. He is Honduran (one of the few tall ones ;)) although he and his family moved to the States when he was 2yrs old. He was raised in a Christian home, and yes, he loves Jesus too! He lived in Atlanta, Georgia until he was about 12/13yrs old. English was technically his "first" language (he speaks perfect English :)) because he went through all of elementary school in the states, although Spanish was of course spoken at home. He lives with his mom Carmen, his older sister Aileene, a younger sister Andrea, and a younger brother Jose (Joseph). When Carlos was 20yrs old (he's 22 now) his dad died of health related issues after a blot clot in the brain, up until that point Carlos was 2yrs into a computer engineering program at a university here in Tegus. When his dad died Carlos changed career courses for a less demanding administration degree (which he'll finish in Mar) so he could support his family. I am continually amazed that somone his age has supported his family the way he has. One of Carlos' major goals is to finish the engineering degree (he's about 2yrs short), mostly for his dad who was a major support/advocate for him in college. I am so sad I was never able to meet Carlos, the dad :), I moved down here about 3mo. after he died. Carlos (my Carlos) loves sports, and especially playing basketball, which is initially how we first met, we were playing up at the school and I challenged him to 1-on-1 (yes, I was probably flirting...:)) and I beat him...several times (ok, only twice ;)). And like a true Latino, he loves soccer too. :). Some of the things I love about him...his heart/genorosity...he hates to see people hungry or needing something and does what he can to fix that, especially for his family. He makes me laugh (and yes, sometimes cry), he's very smart/ good with money (a huge sigh of relief for me) and he will be a wonderful father...ok, at the risk of making him sound perfect...i know he's not ;), there are, of course things i would change...but, overall, I'm happy! A few days ago he spoiled me and took me out to get my hair cut/colored and a pedicure/manicure...It had been almost a year since my hair had seen some TLC. I felt special!

Earlier this week Carlos had an interview/was offered a new postion administering a "cushy" bar/restaurant here in the city. It is a significant increase financially for him and something he is/has studied in school...all good things. You know, I'm not sure I'll ever understand his need to provide/support, but for the 3days ish that he was "jobless" he was definitely stressed/ on edge. But since he has accepted this new position its like he's a new person, dancing around, singing, making me laugh...more relaxed! Thankyou Jesus for that provision. As far as my job goes, I had a great job lined up teaching in the fall at a different school, but that has since fallen through due to my pregnancy...who wants to hire 2teachers instead of 1? :P. The baby is due in the beginning of September, so I wouldn't actually start work again until Nov/Dec. at the earliest. Carlos has told me that as of now, I don't need to worry about finding a job until 2008, something I'm so happy about, I really want to be able to be home for a time with this precious baby. Although, neither of us really know how expensive this is going to be...so I'm really hoping we can afford that :).

Please continue to pray for us...there are still a lot of decisions that need to be made and we really want to make the wisest ones. I love you all!
