Happy Birthday Aunt Sally!

Guatemala 2010

Dear Family!
Once again, I have been given a great opportunity to travel to Guatemala on a mission trip! I will be going to Chichicastenango, Guatemala (Chee-chee-cahst-in-ango) on June 11-19, 2010. The team that I am traveling with is from Resurrection Life Church in Grand Haven, MI. We are going through Pray America, an organization based in Chi-chi.

Pray America is doing great things in Guatemala. After Hurricane Hugo, Ron Morin- PA’s founder- had the opportunity to help the local Mayan Indian population. Through this, the organization-partnered with local pastors- has started numerous feeding, housing, and Bible education programs. While there, our group will be assisting with the feeding programs for the children and widows, building homes for these widowed families, help teach Bible classes, and minister to those we come in contact with. Just like it says in Mark 16:15, “Go into the entire world and preach the gospel…” That is what our group is doing. We are reaching out to the lost and hurting people of Guatemala and sharing with them the love of God.

Guatemala has suffered from civil war until the early 1990’s; the civil war killed thousands of men of fighting age. Because of this, Guatemala has a large widowed population and single parent families where the mother has to provide for the children. We will be helping those people, as well as those in the outreach programs.

I am asking you to support such a worthy cause! First and foremost, I ask that you pray for this mission trip. Through prayer, all needs will be covered! I am also asking for your financial support. The trip costs approximately $1,500 and I hope that you will feel led to help cover those costs! The deadline for the final payment is May 14, 2010. If for some unforeseen reason I cannot go, all funds raised will go to the rest of the mission team.

Of course, all contributions are tax deductible. If writing checks please make them out to RLC or Res Life and put ‘Guatemala’ in the memo line. Please do not write the checks out to me, if you wish the gifts to be tax deductible. I cannot even begin to express my gratitude for helping make this trip possible! It is such a blessing to have friends and family that support missions!

This mission trip is an awesome opportunity for me and our team. Not only will we grow closer as a team, but we will grow closer to our Creator. To learn more about Pray America visit their website at: www.prayamerica.org

I am very excited to go on this trip and it will be such a blessing to me to be a blessing to others! Not only that, but it gives me an opportunity to practice the Spanish I have learned. : ) Once again, THANK YOU so much for your continued support and prayers!!

In Christ,

--Luke

Its Almost Spring!

Hello Family..wow..there is not much on this blog lately..like us everyone has probably been hidden away for the winter...but alas..spring is here! Just wanted to post a recent picture of the kiddys and say hello to you all. Life is good here. Nolan is growing like a mad man..a silly little clone of his daddy..I am sure one of these days I will find him on the roof with a towel tied around his neck as a cape, ready to jump. Isabelle is the best big sister ever and it is such a joy to be her mommy..she is always making me laugh with her silly comments and actions. Adam has been working out of town the last few weeks so we anticipate his arrival home on Thurs. nites and enjoy the long weekends. He is going to Midland this Sat. to take his test to become a Certified Michigan Arborist...so if you need something to pray about theres a reason...I know that will be a huge thing off his mind. Me, well, just enjoying my family and being outside and daydreaming about the garden/flowers I get to plant before long. Hope you are all well. I love to hear whats up with folks so I am putting out a challange for you all to write a little diddy.

Hi All...

Just wanted to say hello to all of you. Life is good. Adam has been staying busy at Integrity. I am loving my babies and enjoying watching them grow and learn. Isabelle has pretty much tackled potty training and is now loving all the "crit-mitts lights" up around town for the holidays. Nolan is amazing me with his chunky little self. He is trying to crawl all over and pulls himself around by his elbows already. He also LOvES to scream this really shrill scream and he thinks he's funny. Well hope you are all getting a chance to enjoy the holidays. God bless. Lindy

The Stickney's!

Hello All!! We are doing well! Cory and I just had a wonderful weekend away in Traverse City with some close friends and felt refreshed... (Until Monday night when we had to go back to real life!!:)) Uriah is 8mos old, crawling, almost has 6 teeth, he's pulling himself up on things and gets up on his feet and hands all the time!
Graham is almost 2yrs and is being potty trained as I write this! He is precious.. yet looking for mischief! :) He loves learning... and has already started counting to 5!! He's doing pretty good w/ the alphabet... all in good time!
Ava is 4yrs now and loves princess dresses, going to Chuck-E-Cheeze's and LOVES it when her Daddy comes home and make a fort to read under! She's learned her alphabet, can almost count to 20 by herself and is learning more and more every day... she's writing letters and her name!!

Cory's business has slowed which seems to be the trend every fall! He's got a new trailer that he can haul two tractors on... and is working on finding the "perfect" truck for our budget!

My mom and Cory gave me two full LONG weekends off from my duties!! I felt so... weird! I'm doing my best to keep my head above water... it gets better all the time! Uriah has been switched to formula and I'm potty training Graham as I write this! I love being a mom, but could use another 4 hours sleep and another 8hours to get my stuff done every day! :) heheheee...

Love you all ! The Stickney's

Honduras!

Family! It has been soooo long since I've updated everyone; here goes! First, the political situation down here is a little shaky, so please be praying:
1- for peace
2- Mel Zelaya (ex-president) does NOT come back to power
3- presidential elections in Nov. go smoothly

We are safe, we haven't been affected by the 'drama', we live far, far away from all the 'action' and are quite happy to be tucked in safe at home. School has been closed for almost 2wks now as a result of 'swine flu' and now the political mess. I have to say I'm not complaining too much, I LOOOOVE being home! The only issue now will be how to make up the missed days :(. But, really, we're safe and sound and just praying things will settle down soon.

Andres is so, so big! WHAT A JOY! His little personality keeps coming out, and I love being with him. He's talking up a storm and loves to be outside! We go for walks every day to pick 'pretties' (flowers). His Grammie taught him well ;). We were able to sneak away for about 4 days to the North Coast of Honduras (La Ceiba) last week, we went to a nice hotel and played in the water the entire time! Andres LOVED the pool and water park, we had such a great time on our mini-vacation thanks to school being cancelled for 10 days for the 'swine flu'. He turned 2 (where does time go???) on Sept. 2 and we had Carlos' family over for dinner and presents. Andres got his first soccer ball...we made the mistake of giving it to him first and he wasn't interested in any other present after that :D. We're thinking about tackling potty training soon...he's really interested and asks all the time, I'm a little intimidated by it though, so we'll see...soon! :)

Carlos is doing great! He finishes his 'trimester' this week, provided classes aren't cancelled. One step closer to his degree...we're in the homestretch! He's working in the technology department at school this year, and he really loves it. Every classroom in the MS/HS has an electronic whiteboard so he's basically in charge of maintenance and training, etc. He does an excellent job- very multi-talented! We were both in one of his best friend's wedding a few weeks ago, so that fun...an interesting experience for me :). We're thinking about Baby #2...so maybe we'll have another annoucement in the near future :).

I'm doing really well...because school has been cancelled so much lately I haven't really felt super busy...which I'm thankful for, because I'm sure it will come :). I love my students again...shocker, I know :). I was a little worried about teaching 8th grade after teaching 11th...but I love it! I was sad to leave my students after 4yrs, but I have completely fallen in love with my 8th graders, they also are a joy to me! I'm thankful for a steady job which I truly enjoy! Although, my favorite part of the day is always picking Andres up from nursery and coming HOME! nothing like it!

I think that's it...nothing too exciting, which is fine by me :). Enjoy Fall for me, that's the one season I miss from home...remember, you're always welcome for a visit ;)! Love you!

Los Valladares' :)
